Grosvenor School’s Admission policy is based on equity and compatibility. We have found through experience that the children get the most from their education when their parents and school share the same core values.
The School has its main intake each September. The children are all four by the first day of that term. The children are not accepted “young” because their lack of maturity means they do not gain the full benefit from the work attempted and they will be “out of year” for the Key Stages and out of the age group of their peers for sporting and other activities.
If a different educational background exists for the children when they enter School at a later stage, placement out of year may be considered if social and other considerations are deemed to be acceptable.
The School selects pupils for the Reception class on the following criteria:
When the School has vacancies in the older age ranges, selection is based on a more formal assessment. The prospective pupils complete NFER reasoning papers. (They will do a reading age test if appropriate). They also attempt work of a standard of which their peers will be familiar. Occasionally, if children want entry other than in September, they will spend a day with their peer group as part of the process.
Selection is based on whether:
Occasionally, children will be accepted who make their class size above what might be seen as the “norm” that we aim for. This happens when, in the Headmaster’s view, there are extenuating circumstances and he is happy that neither the extra child’s, nor the current class, education will suffer (bearing in mind the excellent pupil:teacher ratio that exists in the School)
Terms of Registration
Children will be admitted to the School on condition that:
Once the term before the start date of your child has commenced, a term’s fees in lieu of notice are due regardless of withdrawal of the child.
If the child is withdrawn with fees/monies still owed, your signature overleaf includes agreement of permission that any future Schools may become party to that fact.
Parents are asked to ensure that any child entered for Grosvenor School has had their eyes and ears tested before arrival and at regular intervals while at School. A regular screening by a General Practitioner of all development/health matters is sensible.
Parents will be expected to support and fully co-operate with the Headmaster with the requirements set out in the Parents Handbook.
As school holidays are generous, families are expected to take their vacations when the school is closed. (This request includes weekends).
While every effort is made to inform parents about serious breaches of school rules, it must be accepted that the Headmaster has complete discretion in the imposition of sanctions, including suspension or expulsion.
The Headmaster shall have the right at any time to refuse to admit or require the withdrawal of any child if, in his opinion, such a course is necessary in the interests of the School or the child.
